This is for…

Heather, Hunter, and the beautiful state of North Carolina and it’s inhabitants…

Song of the day:

September Grass by James Taylor (www.james-taylor.com)

Well, the sun’s not so hot in the sky today
And you know I can see summertime slipping on away
A few more geese are gone, a few more leaves turn red
But the grass is as soft as a feather in a featherbed

So I’ll be king and you’ll be queen
Our kingdom’s gonna be this little patch of green

Won’t you lie down here right now
In this September Grass

Oh the memory is like the sweetest pain
Yeah, I kissed the girl at a football game
I can still smell the sweat and the grass stains
We walked home together, I was never the same

But that was a long time ago
And where is she now? I don’t know

Won’t you lie down here right now
In this September grass

Oh, September grass is the sweetest kind
It goes down easy like apple wine
Hope you don’t mind if I pour you some
Made that much sweeter by the winter to come
Do you see those ants dancing on a blade of grass
Do you know what I know? That’s you and me, baby

We’re so small and the world’s so vast
We found each other down in the grass

Won’t you lie down with me right here
September grass
Won’t you lied down with me now
In this September grass

Lie down
Lie down
Lie down

Won’t you lie down here right now
In this September grass

Is this how it feels…

Dedicated to the creek

Song of the day:

Overnight by One Less Frame (www.purevolume.com/onelessframe)

Focusing isn’t as easy as I would like it to be
If I were really intent on getting anything done
Anything I need to do, at least the things that are right in front of me

Suddenly overnight all my troubles piled high
I wish that I was just walking by
But here I am surrounded, too much to get my hands on
I have no hope of focusing on any one thing.

Overwhelming, will you help me
Make some sense of this mess
This place, this life

Nervously pacing, the only progress I am making
If I won’t take steps of faith, will I take a flying leap
Will I land in your arms, or anywhere near where you are
Can I believe that you will run to me

Overwhelming, will you help me
Make some sense of this mess
This place, this life

Is this falling apart, is this crashing down
Is this how it feels, to finally find you

I have no hope of focusing on any one thing
Can I believe that you will run to me

Overwhelming, will you help me
Make some sense of this mess
This place, this life

Is this how it feels to finally find you…

Sounds of Old Towne

One week later and all is well…kinda…well, it is…

I have an apartment now.  I will officially be a resident of Alexandria, VA in two weeks.  This apartment is just plan wonderful.  It’s a cute lil one bedroom apartment.  Though it might cost me a might more than it would if I were living in the Creek, it’s all good.  It’s located in Old Towne Alexandria, the older historic part of the city.  It’s only a 15 minute drive from the Washington Monument, 10 minutes from the Post, and the drive is on the G.W. Parkway, a very scenenic means of travel in DC.  It’s all great, plus…I’m just one step closer to bringin Winston home!

Works good, I’m in the runnings for a full time position, keep those fingers crossed.  No existential words to share as of yet, for right now at least.  Did anyone else catch the fact that Paul now has a blog (http://paulinthecity.blog.com) he claims it’s for mission purposes only…uh huh, we’ll see.  I claimed that I would stick to song of the day with my blog…see where that’s taken me…*wink*

The most exciting thing to report…In less than a week I will be back home for three days with my family in the Creek.  Talk about wonderful…who’s excited!  Well, duh…

Song of the day:

The House Our Father Knew  by Jump Little Children (www.jumphq.com) It’s been stuck in my head all day…

Fate will find a way, for your
On golden wings and leaden shoes
All the way to the house our father knew

And this angry storm of slamming doors
And broken glass on hardwood floors
Waits for you in the hosue our father knew

Don’t you hear that defeaning roar
Again and again in a broken refrain
We’re homeward bound, pulled by the sound
Of history repeating

Green monkey grass and granite stones
A bitter heart and frozen bones
Pave the way to the house our father knew

Every second chance, set me free
Has come and gone and left a key
Left for you tot he house our father knew

Don’t you hear that defeaning roar
Again and again in a broken refrain
We’re homeward bound, pulled by the sound
Of history repeating

All these rooms, stairways going over
Let it be the house our father knew

Don’t you hear that defeaning roar
Again and again in a broken refrain
We’re homeward bound, pulled by the sound
Of history repeating

History repeating
History repeating

Barely Breathing

Song of the day: It’s gonna be JLC for a while…you know how it is, once you get a new CD, it’s all you listen to…

Yearling by Jump Little Children (www.jumphq.com)

I can hear you sleeping
Like a softly penned letter
That you plan on keeping
Sound asleep next to me
Under the ink of a drying sky

If I were a wordsmith
A creative license
To puncture my journals with
I would write of the site
Under my green poetic eye

I’m a yearling, A callow school boy
In the eyes of love, A pallid virgin
Just a newborn, Barely breathing
In the eyes of love, I’m a yearling

As I share this pathos
The smothering poem
Breathes in a breath of prose
Breathe you in and again
Dizzying features of love rush by

Cause I’m a yearling, A callow school boy
In the eyes of love, A pallid virgin
Just a newborn, Barely breathing
In the eyes of love, I’m a yearling

Took from a book of blank verse
From, from these pages I’ve nursed
Awakened by the sleeping rhymes of love

Cause I’m a yearling, A callow school boy
In the eyes of love, A pallid virgin
Just a newborn, Barely breathing
In the eyes of love, I’m a yearling

For you, ptg

JLC w/ PTG…figure it out…you’ll get it…

Another night with Jump! …And Paul…great combination.

To celebrate our 5 month anniversary, Paul and I semi-quasi road-tripped it up to Baltimore last night to catch the Jump Little Children show at the 8 X 10 club, blocks away from Camden Yards (for those of you who like the Orioles).  This being the final tour of JLC, I wanted to be sure I didn’t miss it, regardless of my location.

We were originally supposed to work the merch table, that was the plan.  Sad that Paul wouldn’t be able to see the wonderful show JLC puts on, but, we’d get to meet the band, get in free, and other such perks of working for the band.  Well, due to a name mix up, I said Shannon, apparently it was Tara on the list, I can see how that could get confusing, we had to wait outside for a bit.  While waiting, Paul and I noticed a Rock-looking gentleman talking on a cell phone, while keeping some distance between himself and the dozen or so teenie bopper girls in line for tickets.  As we continued to glance at him I realized that, indeed he was a rock gentleman, but not just any ol rocker, he was JLC drummer, Mr. Evan Bivins, brother of cooky, crazy-eyed, JLC multi-instrumentalist Matt Bivins.  A man Ms. Tibbitts has come to admire because of his…um…stage presence…*wink*

After much deliberation and coaxing from Paul, I decided to do the dorky fan thing and ask for a picture.  After the pic, we chatted with him briefly and told him why we were waiting…not long after that, their manager came out, checked our names, and ushered us right past the ticket counter and into the club, free of charge. We met Judith, JLC enthusist, and seasoned pro of merch.  She told us that we wouldn’t need to work the table, which was good due to the fact that it was downstairs and totally out of sight of the show.  All we needed to do was check on her once to see if she needed a potty break, or if they played her request, which they didn’t, sorry Judith.  KT, you have some competition, she seems to be quite the Matt enthusist as well.

We headed upstairs after meeting Judith and got comfortable  while we waited for the show to begin.  The opening act was great.  Jim Boggia was amazing. His voice, raspy and moving, his guitar playing could rival Rick and Dave put together, and the coolest thing, he’s completely blind in his left eye, and pretty much blind in his right.  Now that’s talent. Much better than the last opening act guys…good job!

After Jim, we checked on Judith, she was good to go, so we settled in for a couple hours with Jump.  They played all the greats, including “Pink Lemonade”, one of Anj’s requests.  Of course “Cathedrals” was perfect.  And I know KT enjoyed her phone call on “Body Parts” (clueless about the songs…download, buy the CD, look up lyrics, it’s worth it).  They ended with an amazing performance of My Guitar, it made Paul happy to see Jay and Ward play together on the same guitar, he also quite enjoyed Mark’s stage antics.

It was a great show, a great night and a great anniversary.  What a way to end a truly amazing week.

Song of the day:

Rains in Asia by (who else) Jump Little Children (www.jumphq.com) and checkout Jim Boggia too (www.jimboggia.com).

She likes the photograph, the one of you and SimoneOut in the rain on a Sunday morningShe likes to take it out, only when she's feeling downAnd then she says "Can you hear it raining?"

She wants to know does everyone feel this wayWhen it rains in the summertimeShe wants to know does everyone feel this wayWhen you're sure that he's gone forever
When it rains in Asia (It makes her feel this way)CaliforniaLondon, BombayWhen it rains in Asia
She lies to take the train down to Washington SquareAnd hear the buskers sing 'Oh Suzanah'She likes to let it come right to the tip of her toungeAnd then she feels like an angel talking
She wants to know does everyone feel this wayOutside the walls of AmericaShe wants to know does everyone feel this wayWhen you're sure that he's gone forever
When it rains in Asia (It makes her feel this way)CaliforniaLondon, BombayWhen it rains in Asia
She wants to know is it always, always raining somewhere
When it rains in AsiaCaliforniaLondon, BombayWhen it rains in Asia
